Kanepe yenileme - Sofa renewal

Bu sene oğlum artık yurtta kalmak istemeyip eve çıkmak istediğine bizi ikna edince evdeki bazı mobilyaları ve eşyaları onun yeni evine gönderdim. Hal böyle olunca bodrum katta iki koltuk haricinde oturacak yer kalmadı. Niyetim bir L kanepe almak idi aslında. 

Yıllar önce  eve misafir geldiğinde yatak olarak kullanabileceğimiz (ki o dönem ailem yurt dışında yaşadığı için senede bir gelirlerdi) rahat bir kanepeye ihtiyaç duyduk. Her ne kadar beğenmesek de bütçemize uygun olduğu ve yatak olarak rahat olduğu gerekçesiyle bu kanepeyi almıştık. Yıllar geçti ve artık evde düzgün bir misafir odası olmasına rağmen ben bu kanepeyi bir türlü atamadım. Oğlum büyümüş ve arkadaşlarını yatıya eve getirmeye başlamıştı. Dolayısıyla çok nadir de olsa işime yarayan bu kanepe yıllarca evde gözümü tırmalaya tırmalaya kaldı. 

Günün birinde döşemelik bir parça kumaşı çok uygun fiyata bulunca bu kanepeyi kurtarabilirmiyim  acaba diye düşündüm ve aldım. Kaplayınca ve üzerine renkli yastıklar da dikince hiç fena olmadı. Bu kanepeyi alırken birkaç sene kullanır ve paramız olduğunda atar yenisini alırız demiştik ama kadere bak ki 20 yıldır bizimle...

Aslen niyetim sararmış çam rengi kolları da kumaş ve sünger ile kaplamak idi ama kumaşım yetmeyince kollar açıkta kaldı. Şimdilik üzerindeki yastıklar dikkatimi dağıttığı için bu kollar çok beni rahatsız etmiyor ama ettiği zaman belki onları da boyar yada başka bir çare düşünürüm.   

  

As this year my son convinced us that he needed to rent a flat instead of staying in the university dorm, I arranged some furniture and stuff from our house to his new flat. In the end I was left without much place to sit in the basement floor. My intention was to buy a corner sofa bed.  

Years ago we had a need for a comfortable sofa bed for staying over guests (at that time as my parents were living abroad they were comming over to stay once a year). Although we didn't like it, we'de bought this sofa bed as it was suitable for our budget and comfortable as a bed. Year passed and we arranged a proper guest room but still I couldn't get rid of it. My son had grown up and had started bringing his crowded friends home to stay. Hence this irritating sofa that we only used once in a while stayed in the house.

One day I found a cheap upholstering piece of fabric, bought it thinking if I would be able to save this sofa. It didn't turn out bad when I covered the sofa and sew some cushions for it. When we first bought this sofa we'de decided to use it for a few years and buy a nice one when we have extra money to do so but fate made it stay for 20 years...

Actually my intention was to cover the pine arms that turned yellowish in time with a batting and fabric but as as the fabric was scarce I couldn't do so. For now the cushions on it distract my attention from the arms so I'm not too much bothered with them but when they start bothering me I will think of something.

I'de mentioned that I didn't like the look of the curtains and the carpet in my previous post. This is how my kitchen looks like after I've changed them...

Önce perde; sevdiğim bir stor bulamayınca eski storun mekanizmasını kullanarak storumu yeniledim. Bu kumaşı bilmem hatırlarmısınız. Daha İkea Türkiyede açılmamışken yıllarca bu desendeki kumaşı satmıştı, hatta aynı desende tepsi de vardı. Benim oturduğum bölgede yıllar önce bir sosyete pazarı kurulmuştu bir yaz. Şimdi kurulan sosyete pazarı ile ilgisi olmayan çok değişik ürünlerin olduğu bir pazar'dı. İşte o pazar'da bu İkea kumaşları satılmıştı. 10-15 yıl önce kumaşla, dikişle hiç ilgim olmadığından ben tabii almamıştım bu kumaşlardan ama arkadaşım Oya gitmiş, gelmiş metrelerce kumaş almış. Aldığı parçalardan birini bana verince mutfağımın perdesi oluverdi bu güzel kumaş...

The roller blind; I couldn't find a roller blind that I like so I renewed my roller blind by using its mechanism. I don't know if you can remember this fabric. Before İkea had opened in Turkey for years they'de sold this design fabric. They even had trays in this design. Years ago there was a market in the area that I'm living and that market was so good, it was not at all like the market they have now. In this market they were selling this İkea fabric. 10-15 years ago as I had nothing to do with sewing or fabric I hadn't bought any but my friend Oya bought loads. When she gave a piece of it to me, this beautiful fabric turned out to be my new roller blind...

Halıyı İkea'dan aldım ama alırken fark etmemişim. Üzerindeki desen eğriymiş ve bu sebeple halı eğri duruyormuş gibi görünyor. Şimdilik çok takılmıyorum, gözüm alıştı belki de...

I bought the carpet from İkea but I didn't realize that the pattern on it was slouching. Because of that it seems that the carpet is not layed properly. I don't worry about it now, maybe I got used to it...

" Mutlu olmak için..." Her gün defalarca bu ahşap yazıyı görüyorum ve her okuyuşumda beynim cümleyi tamamlıyor. Objenin kendisi bile mutlu ediyor beni... iyi ki almışım...

"To be happy..." Everyday I see this writing many times and my brain completes the sentence. Even the object itself makes me feel happy... I'm glad that I bought it... 

Geçen sene  noel zamanı Oya ile bir tura katılmıştık. Viyana-Budapeşte-Prag. Çok kısıtlı bir bütçeyle ekonomik ama çok keyifli 1 hafta geçirdik. Hesapta alış veriş yapmayacaktım ama Prag'da Noel pazarında (chirstmas market) bunu görünce dayanamadım. Hem emaye, hem evler var üzerinde, hemde benim resmen aşık olduğum bir şehrin ismi yazıyor, nasıl dayanır ki insan almamaya? Tamam itiraf ediyorum, aldığım tek şey bu değildi...

Last winter in Christmas we went on a tour with Oya. Vienna-Budapest- Prague. With a limited budget we spent a economical but wonderful week. My plan was not to do any shopping but when I saw this at a christmas market in Prague I couldn't let go. It's enameli there are houses on it and it has the name of the city that I fell in love. How can one bear not buying it?  Ok I confess, this is not the only thing that I bought... 

Her şey böyle başladı 2

Vardı niyetim, mutfağı beyaza boyamaya... Demiştim ki kendime "oğlun tatil için gelecek, şimdi başlama, bitiremezsin, elin ayağın dolaşır" ve başlamadım... bu işlem için gerekli malzemeler aşağı yukarı vardı evde... Niyetlendim ya bir kere, her mutfağa gidişimde dolaplara baktım, baktım ve mutsuz hissettim kendimi... Böylece bekledim 10 gün kadar "yapma, doğru zaman değil bu zaman" diyerek kendime... Bir Perşembe günü, oğlumun gelmesinden 3 gün, eşimin eve işten dönmesine 3-4 saat kala olan oldu... Aslında masum bir şekilde bir bardak kahve almaya girdim oraya, dolabın birinin kapağında bir leke... Uğraştım çıkarmaya, leke inat, ben inat, çıkmadı ve leke kazandı... Ya da kazandığını sandı... O an mutfak dolapları boşaltıldı ve tüm malzemeler gün yüzüne çıkarıldı ve içimden ses dedi ki "eylem başlasın"

It was my intension to paint the kitchen cabinets white... I'de told myself "Your son is going to come for holidays, don't start now, if you can't finish youl'll feel bad" so I didn't... I more or less had all the materials I would need ready at home... As decision was made whenever I went to the kitchen I stared at the cabinets, I looked at them and felt unhappy... So I waited for about 10 days telling myself "You can't do it now, this is not the right time"... And then one Thursday afternoon 3 days before my son's arrival, 3-4 hours before my husband returning back from work it happened... Actually I only went to the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee and saw a stain on a cabinet door... I struggled to get it of... The stain was stubborn and so was I but in the end the stain won the battle and wouldn't come of...That moment I emptied the cabinets and took out all the material and the voice inside said " let the action begin"

Ve yine aceleyle çekilmiş mutfağın o anki durumunu ifade eden berbat bir resim  (bu kez bir "öncesi" resmi çekmeyi atlamadım diye çok gurur duymuştum kendimle oysa ki) ...

And again a terrible photo showing the state of the kitchen at that moment, terrible as it was taken in a hurry ( though I was so proud of myself for not forgetting to take a "before" picture )

Pazar akşamı itibariyle dolaplarım artık beyaz. Oğlum geldiğinde temizliğe geçmiştim.

Sunday night the cabinets were all white. When my son arrived I was still trying to clean up)

Resmi çektim, tam huzura kavuşacağım ki perde gözüme takıldı sonrada halı.... Belli oldu ki ikisi de değişecek... Hatta seramikler, dolap kapak kulpları (aynı ölçüde beğendiğim bir şey bulamadığım için şimdilik eskilerini taktım).

Bu arada dolap kapaklarının hepsini boyamadım, Çerçeveleri boyandı içleri ise dc fix'in  beyaz ahşap modeli ile kaplandı. Hava kabarcığı bırakmadan kaplamayı başardığım için çok başarılı oldu. Herkes dolap kapaklarını değiştirttim sanıyor... :)

I took a picture and just as I was going to have some peace first the rollar blind then the carpet caught my eye... Obviously they have to change... Also the tiles, the cabinet door handles (I wasn't able to find any right sized handles that I love so I fixed the old ones for now) 

By the way I didn't paint all of the cabinet doors. Only the frames where painted, for the inside I used 
dc fix whitewood. As I was able to use this material without making any air bubbles it turned out to be very successful. Everyone thinks that I've changed the cabinet doors...  :)

Beyaz oda

Evimdeki beyazlama faaliyeti son hız devam ediyor, az kaldı.
Günün birinde yatak odasına dalmıştım bu kez de... Bir gömme dolap, 2 komodin haricinde eşya olmayan bir oda bu. Ahşap olan her şey aşağı yukarı aşağıda gördüğünüz renkteydi. (komodinler, gömme dolabın kapakları, çerçeveler, kapı...)
Komodinleri boyadım beyaza... Gömme dolap kapaklarını çok ağır oldukları ve kayma fonksiyonunda bana sıkıntı yaşattıkları için söktürdüm ve beyaz, hafif ve aynalı kapaklar taktırdım... Gömme dolaptan çıkan ahşap kapaklardan birini kestirerek üzerilerine sünger, elyaf ve kumaş kaplayarak yatak başına dönüştürdüm. Çerçeveleri ve kapıyı beyaza boyadım ( Sadece bu odanın kileri değil, bu kattaki tüm odaların çerçeve ve kapılarını boyadım) . İkea'dan 49 lira'ya aldığım bu dümdüz rafı yatağın tepesine taktım, Banyo için aldığım ve türlü sebeplerden banyoya takamadığım rafı astım, birazda süsledim odayı ... ve tatatataaaa....
Her zamanki gibi, projemin bütünü beni o kadar heyecanlandırdı ki odanın önceki halini fotoğraflayamadım. O yüzdendir ki aşağıda tek  "öncesi-sonrası" resmi var, diğer resimler hep "sadece sonrası"

My whitening process in the house is continiuing. 
A while ago I was in the bedroom... There is no other furniture in this room except from a built in wardrobe and 2 bedside tables. All wood that was in the room was more or less in the color of the bedside table that you can see below. (the bedside tables, the doors of the wardrobe, the window frames and the door) 
I painted the bedside tables to white... I got the wardrobe doors changed to light weight white doors with mirrors as they were too heavy and were giving me a hard time while trying to slide them open or close... I got one of the door cut to size then I covered it with foam and fabric so that it would serve as a head board. I painted the window frames and the door to white (not only in this room, I painted all the frames and doors in that floor) ... Mounted the shelf that I got fom İkea for 49 lira on top of the bed, mounted the shelf that I'de bought for the bathroom but wasn't able to set up for some reason, decorated the room a bit... and now this is how it looks like. As usual, I was too excited about my whole project so I forgot to take the picture of the room before I'de done all this. So below you can find only 1 "before and after" picture, the rest is "only after"...

Çarpı işi kalplerimi Çiğdem arkadaşım işlemişti. Yeni rafıma pek yakıştı...

The cross stitch hearts were made by my friend Çiğdem. They look very good on my new shelf...

Çocukken İngiltere'de yaşamıştık ve bu domuz kumbaramı 7-8 yaşlarımda birisi bana hediye etmişti. (kim olduğunu hatırlamıyorum, belki de anneme sormalıyım). Normalde bu tür objelerden sıkılırım zaman içinde ama şaşırtıcı bir durum var ki hala bunu çok seviyorum.

When I was a kid we lived in the UK for some time and someone gave this piggy bank to me as a gift (I can't remember who, maybe I should ask mum). I normally get bored with objects in time but surprisingly I still love this one.

İsterdim güvenlik sebebiyle şu çirkin demirlere ihtiyaç duymadığım bir yerde yaşamayı, onları da mı boyasam beyaza?

I would love to live in a place that I don't need these ugly iron stuff for security, should I paint them white also?

Teneke resimler ve Öncesi/sonrası Banyo

Demin baktım da taaa Ekim ayında başlamışım banyom la boğuşmaya. Kırmızı olan tüm banyo mobilyasını boyamıştım beyaza, sıra gelmişti süslemeye. İki tane yapmayı planladığım şey vardı, seramikleri boyamak ve banyoma metal resim asmak. İlkinden vazgeçtim çünkü yaptığım araştırmalar sonucunda yapacağım işe güvenemedim. Boyamak istediğim seramiklerin büyük kısmı küvetin içindeydi (dolayısıyla hep sulu bölgede),  projem tutmaz ve görüntü kötü olursa bununla yaşamakta zorlanacaktım, cesaret edemedim... İkinci dileğimi ise hiç şahsen tanımadığım fakat blogu sebebiyle adım adım takip ettiğim bir arkadaşım yerine getirdi. Bu kişi muhtemeldir ki çoğunuzun o muhteşem fotoğrafları ve güzel anlatımıyla tanıdığı, bildiği "Sahildeki ev" blogunun sahibi Ayşegül (Ola ki karşılaşmadıysanız blogunu görünce bana hak vereceksiniz) . Taa Ekim ayında (yada Kasım) bir gün kapı çalındı ve bir paket geldi. Ben dilemiştim bir tane, paketin içinden çıktı iki tane... Nasıl sevindim çünkü yıllarca her yerde gördüğüm o metal tabloları günlerce mağazalarda, pazarda hatta internette bile aramış ve bulamamıştım. İkisine de bayıldım ama bir tanesi benim tamda istediğim tablo çıktı.

I just had a look and realized that I'de started to struggle with my bathroom in October. I'de already changed all red colored bathroom furniture to white and it was time for some decoration. I had two things in mind that I'de planned to do, one was to paint the tiles and the other was to hang a metal picture on the wall. I changed my mind for the first one as after all the research I did, I didn't quiet trust what would come out. Most of the tiles that I'de planned to paint were inside the bath tub ( a very wet area) and if my plans didn't turn out to be acceptible I would have a hard time living with this scene, so I didn't dare to go on. ... As for my second wish, a friend that I follow every day from her blog but do not know in person, made it come true. This friend Ayşegül  is the owner of the blog "Sahildeki ev" which probably most of you know from her brilliant photos and her fluent narration (If you havn't come across her yet you will undertsand what I'm talking about ,when you see her blog) . It was October ( or maybe Nowember) my door rang and I recieved a package. I'de only wished for one but two came out of the package... I was soo happy as I'de been trying to find these metal pictures for days; in the shops, at the market and even in the internet, but wasn't able to find them. I loved them both but one was just the one that I'de been looking out for.

Hayalim bu yukarıda görünen raf, resim, kitap, süs kombinini banyoda klozetin üzerine asmak yönündeydi. Banyom o kadar küçük ki başka duvar yok (küvetin içinde kalan duvarlar hariç). Fakat eşim "bütün elektik kabloları o duvarda, matkapla delerken çarpılabilirsin deyince yapamadım. Şimdi bu resim nerede asılı derseniz, daha sonraki bir yenileme projemin bir parçası oldu, sırayla paylaşacağım...

My dream was to hang this shelf, picture, book, decoration combination just behind the toilet seat in the bathroom. The bathroom is so small that ther is no other wall ( except from the ones inside the bath tub) But when my husband said "all the electricity cables are inside this wall you may get struck by electricity while you're drilling a hole on the wall " I couldn't go on. If you're saying then where is this picture combination hanging, it became a part of another renewation project and I will share it later...

Diğer tabloya gelince, evin içinde muhtelif yerleri gezdikten sonra kendine en uygun yeri iki hafta önce buldu, bende "evet yaa, işte burasıymış bu resmin yeri" huzuruna kavuştum.

As for the other picture, after wondering around in different spots of the house it found it's place two weeks ago and made me peacefull thinking "yes, this is the right place for this picture".

Burası bizim bodrum katındaki banyomuz. Bu büyükçe bir banyo, bana karanlık geldiği için pek kullanmıyordum ve o yüzden de pek ihmal edilmiş durumda idi ama resmi takınca bana bir şevk geldi, lambasını değiştirdim, biraz süsledim ve bir anda kullanılabilinir, güzel bir yer haline geldi...

This is our basement bathroom. It is moderately big but as I found it to be too dark I wasn't using it much, so it was deserted in a way. But as soon as I hung the picture I gained my enthusiasm, changed the lighting, decorated it a bit and it turned out to be a very usable nice place. 

Bu tabloların yanında da çok zarif bir teneke kutu çıktı, o da hobi odamda hemen yerini aldı...

Besides these pictures there also was an elegant tin box which immediately found its place in my hobby room. 

Bu da banyomun son hali. Zaten birinci yaptığım değişimi burada paylaşmıştım. Banyo o kadar minik ki içinde resim çekmek bile çok zor, ancak bu kadar çekebildim. Zaten bundan fazla bir klozet birde küvet var...

And this is the last state of my bathroom now. I'de already shared my first renewal in the bathroom here. The bathroom is so small that its even hard to take pictures, thats all I could get. Any way there's only a bathtub and a toilet seat apart from this...
